Our Guide To Zip Line, Bungy & More Adventures on Vancouver Island

If you're looking for some zip line fun, bungy jumping and more, we spent an afternoon at an outdoor adventure park here on Vancouver Island that offers just that!

Our opinion? It was excellent.

Whether you're single, a couple, or a family, this place is definitely worth a visit!

For extreme adventurists - if you're into bungy jumping on Vancouver Island, head here for some serious adrenaline. Or try swinging while strapped into a harness over a river canyon. For mom and dad - if you're on a Vancouver Island family adventure vacation, this is a must-stop-adventure-spot!

We visited this place in the Summer of 2007, and it's worth our recommendation! Here's more about it...

Wild Play Element Parks

Wild Play Element Parks is an outdoor adventure park located about a 10 minute drive south of the city of Nanaimo, on the Island Highway (Hwy 19).

The three of us were on our annual Vancouver Island summer family adventure vacation and checked this place out.

Here's what the Wild Play Element Parks offers:

BUNGY JUMPING Love extreme adventure? Take the plunge and bungy jump on Vancouver Island. Jump off what looks to be an old train trestle/bridge - 140 feet over the canyon below (a breathtaking place). They use the traditional "ankle-fastened" bungy method. We haven't tried it, nor do we intend to. Too high, too scary... too insane!

KING SWING If you're not keen on the bungy jump, but still want to try something wild, there's the King Swing. So you're wondering... "what on earth is the King Swing?"

Basically, it's a gigantic swing - more like a safety harness dangling from a rope - that gets launched from the bungy bridge (same height as the bungy launch) and you swing down over the Nanaimo river canyon below. The Swing, they say, can go up to 140 km/h.

(We saw the King Swing launch into action on our visit. Unreal! The two girls harnessed together let out massive screams. It looked like loads of fun if you can handle swinging sensations, and in our opinion, it's marginally less fearsome than the bungy).

TREEGO Here's the outdoor adventure we tried and loved! TreeGo is a tree-to-tree aerial adventure course - complete with zip line cables! It's basically an obstacle course suspended up in the trees, where you're harnessed in safety gear.

Adult Course - There's four levels and they range from easy to difficult.

Here's the course we did. If you can't handle the rigors of the full course (it gets very difficult), you can go as far as you're comfortable. Susan had to get "rescued" by the guide halfway through!

Cost per adult is $39.99 CDN.

Kids Course - For kids ages 7 and up, this is an obstacle adventure in the trees. Here's our son. He LOVED it (he went back through the course three times!)

Kids are safety-harnessed as they climb, walk, balance and zip line their way through a "playground" suspended in the trees (not too high up). Parents can walk along the path as the kids traverse the obstacles.

No worries! Staff guides walk the ground below watching the kids as they travel through the course. Cost per child is $19.99 CDN.

A Few More Details

TreeGo is a very well organized operation. We were very impressed. Staff are informative, patient and answer all your questions. You're suited up in safety gear and trained before the adventures. Staff guides walk along both the kids course and the adult courses on the ground underneath to ensure everyone's comfortable.

HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE?

Depending on what you want to do, count on spending about half a day in the park. There's an on-site restaurant offering lunch-type fare (pricey). Vending machines for cold drinks and bathrooms are available. No lockers for valuables or backpacks, so leave that out of sight in your locked vehicle in the parking lot.

Prices may vary depending on the season, so best to call ahead if you want info on cost.

NEW INFO!

We've found out about another zip line adventure here on Vancouver Island that's worth a mention...

Adrena Line Zipline Adventure Tour is located on the southern tip of the Island, near Sooke BC. These guys offer a couple of neat things: pick up service from downtown Victoria to the Sooke zipline site & guided zip line tours - 8 ziplines and a couple of suspension bridges. Although we haven't tried it out ourselves yet, we want to thank Todd for letting us in on this! This zipline looks pretty sweet!

We had a great time on the zip line aerial adventure course! We're sure you will too!
