The Winter Olympics...
Next Door to Vancouver Island

The Winter Olympics are over, but... thanks to the beautiful City of Vancouver, British Columbia (BC), for hosting a spectacular 2010 winter celebration! For you folks that came to Vancouver, we here at V-I-A.com hope you had a fantastic time (and heard that quite a few of you made a trip over to Vancouver Island - and loved it!)

We look forward to some nail-biting competition - with the upcoming Paralympic Games, on March 12 to 21, 2010.

The Winter Olympics in Vancouver was a great way to showcase our Island. For all your outdoor hounds, we've got a tremendous amount of adventures to come back to!

We're just a short flight or easy ferry from the City of Vancouver, BC, or from Seattle, Washington.

Here's some highlights of athlete training that involved Vancouver Island...

Olympic Training on Vancouver Island

DID YOU KNOW...?
  • The Canadian, American, Swiss, and Swedish Snowboard teams trained for 2010 on Vancouver Island - at Mount Washington Alpine Resort. The resort's located on the central Island and the teams lodged right on the mountain.

  • Sweden’s national Olympic committee based its Nordic ski teams at Mount Washington on Vancouver Island for their training.

  • Mount Washington Resort created an Olympic-level biathlon shooting range.

Visiting Vancouver Island After the Olympics

From wilderness to beaches to urban centres... come back and experience what you missed:

  • SKI
Mount Washington Alpine Resort - plan a half or full day skiing or snowboarding here. Our Recommendation: Book lodging right on the mountain to get the full alpine experience. Mount Washington condos are available for rent, and you can ski right to your door.

  • KAYAK
Grab a kayak and head out for some incredible views of Vancouver Island. There are some excellent guided kayaking tours that we recommend can be done year-round.

Hope to see you back, and outside, here on Vancouver Island!
