Experience a Vancouver Island Long Beach Winter Adventure!

Welcome to your Vancouver Island Long Beach adventure! What we have in mind is raw, wild, and it's 100% natural. And we think you should do it at least once!

We're talking about storm watching at Vancouver Island Long Beach. And if you are looking for a unique adventure, then we recommend winter storm watching.

Stretching for some 10 miles, this is where you'll find some of British Columbia's most spectacular ocean scenery! This is our favourite Vancouver Island vacation spot.

Unspoiled wilderness, temperate rainforests, stunning sandy beaches, hiking trails, and more. And talk about surf! The biggest waves are on this side of the Island - just a perfect destination for "storm" adventure-seekers.

Why We Think Storm Watching is an Adventure

While your idea of an adventure might be cycling down a verical mountain slope, your partner's idea might be a Vancouver Island romantic getaway. That's why we recommend storm watching - This is a great little adventure getaway!

Witness enormous breakers pounding the rugged coast and watch as waves break dramatically on rocky headlands. When (if) it calms down, make sure you do some beachcombing - you're sure to find some very interesting shells (or creatures...)

Then cozy up next to the fire with the sound of the waves!

The Best Times for Storm Watching

Best times to storm watch? Winter and Spring are the ideal times for West Coast storm watching.

Winter storm watching season for the Vancouver Island Long Beach region is November to late February.

Although you'll still run into stormy weather in the Fall and Spring, Graeme and I think that the winter storms are the best, and Long Beach residents agree too!

One local woman I talked to said that December/January are the best months to experience the storms, as that's when they see the biggest waves and roughest Pacific weather.

Where To Stay on Your Vancouver Island Long Beach Storm Watching Adventure

If you're planning to come on out for stormy weather, then the West Coast has some excellent Vancouver Island oceanfront accommodation waiting for you. We've narrowed down the choices for you and picked out the best places!

Are you a die-hard camper (yes, even in winter)? Or do you want something warmer and more luxurious?

You'll like our hand-picked Vancouver Island oceanfront accommodation list. We've found places that put you right in front of the storms!

So welcome to the very wild Vancouver Island Long Beach experience - and have a smashing winter adventure!

A WORD OF CAUTION:

Climbing on rocks during storm season is extremely dangerous - don't do it!

Waves are bigger and stronger at this time of year than any other time. Stay far enough away from the waterline on the beaches also, as waves can easily overpower and sweep people into the frigid waters.
