When you're planning your Vancouver Island fishing charter and you want to bring in a good haul of salmon, then one of the areas we highly recommend (and have had good success at) is Sooke.

The town of Sooke - located about a 40 minute drive West of Victoria - is a great starting point for your Vancouver Island fishing charter.

The Sooke region has some of the Island's best salmon fishing. We've been out on several Sooke salmon charters and within 30 minutes we reeled in a big one! Fantastic fishing grounds!

A fishing charter can be a half or full day, or you can book up to a 3-day charter. Try to book well in advance, as charters (especially in Sooke) fill up really quickly.

Another region for very good salmon fishing that we'd highly recommend is Campbell River. The City of Campbell River is about a 3 hour drive north from Victoria, or 1.5 hours north of Nanaimo.

• HereWeGo Fishing Charters - Located in Sooke, this is a great year-round salmon fishing charter, fully-guided (his name is Jorgen). We love it because he provides everything. For example, here's what they include in their One-Day Fishing Package: sportfishing license, gear, a packed lunch, photos and cleaning of your catch, vacuumed packed to take home.

  An added bonus is they give you a crab trap to put down while you're out on the water - when you come back, check your trap and they'll cook up your crab catch while you relax!

• Destiny Sportfishing Charters - Located in Campbell River (known as Canada's Salmon Capital), this company offers year-round salmon fishing charters. They offer a one day (8 hour) fishing charter, but also have other very good fishing packages that you might want to look into.

  If you have an extra day (or two in this area), they offer another really good fishing adventure: The Nootka Sound Package, which is a remote wilderness fishing excursion where you can fish for a day (or two) for halibut, snapper, cod and more.

• Van Isle Fishing & Marine Adventures - Located in Deep Bay on the Island's eastern coast (about a 20 minute drive north from Nanaimo) this is an excellent location for catching Chinook salmon. Van Isle Fishing & Marine Adventures is a good charter choice for this area, offering half to full day charters, or customized packages.
