Tofino BC, on the western side of Vancouver Island, is one of our favourite places for our family vacation! Excellent outdoor activities: ocean kayaking, incredible whale watching, forest trails and secluded hot springs, and miles of sandy beaches. In all honesty, a trip to Vancouver Island should include a stay in Tofino. If you can splurge, stay at one of the Tofino resorts that top our list for a truly memorable vacation! Long Beach Lodge Resort
One of our favourites! Sophisticated with a bit of "rustic," this resort is situated at Cox Bay (a smaller part of the Pacific Rim beach). It's a perfect resort if you just want to relax and walk the beach. Cox Bay is uncrowded, and one of the best spots to try out surfing. Our Favourite? Check out the Great Room - a sitting room for guests with a huge fireplace, large windows, and oversized chairs. Relax in here and watch the incredible sunsets. If you're willing to shell out the big bucks, then this is the place! Perched on rocks overlooking the Pacific, this famous luxury resort also has been rated as one of the top health spa vacations destination (Ancient Cedars Spa) in North America. The Wickaninnish Inn is a good place for everyone: a luxury romantic resort for couples and also welcoming for families. The restaurant is incredible, and the service is excellent. Another top favourite resort. Located on Cox Bay, the Pacific Sands has a variety of excellent rooms to choose from and some pretty well-priced packages too. All rooms have a fireplace and ocean view. The resort offers hot tub rooms too to make this a luxury romantic resort stay. Friendly and helpful staff round out this oceanfront retreat. Downside: There's no on-site restaurant at this resort. However, if that's not high on your list, then it's still an excellent place to stay. Catch a good dinner out and the Schooner Restaurant (our favourite) in downtown Tofino. NOTE: all rooms come with an equipped small kitchen if you don't mind making your own.

Best Western Tin Wis Resort
. Basic hotel-style room, but all rooms are quiet and with an ocean view. We enjoyed our stay and the location is right in front of Mackenzie Beach (beautiful for a lazy stroll). We didn't find the staff all that friendly, but if you don't care about that, then this resort makes for a slightly more affordable option.
