BC Provincial Campground Adventures: Our Island's Best Provincial Parks

If you want to get close to raw nature, then a Vancouver Island BC provincial campground vacation is what you'll love!

Camping in our Island's provincial parks could very well be some of the most memorable outdoor adventures you'll ever have!

From sites nestled in lush forests next to waterfalls, to pitching your tent with a wide open view of the Pacific Ocean, we've just got some really amazing provincial parks here on the Island.

So if you're heading out to do some serious camping in BC, take a look at our hand-picked favourites. You'll find a BC provincial campground here on the Island that's sure to satisfy!

Here they are (by region):

SOUTHERN ISLAND

  • Juan de Fuca Provincial Park (west of Jordan River) Head to China Beach Campground within this park. A good campground to taste the rugged western coastline of the Island. If you want to see marine life up close, check out the amazing tidal pools here! Great hiking trails connecting to the campground.

  • Gordon Bay Provincial Park (northwest of Duncan) One of our favourites - an excellent family campground! Located on beautiful (and warm) Lake Cowichan. Lots of interesting things to do in this area. Good hiking trails.

CENTRAL ISLAND & WESTERN COAST

NORTHERN ISLAND

  • Loveland Bay Provincial Park (near Campbell River) A really nice lakeside provincial park. A smaller, quieter campground right on gorgeous Campbell Lake. Great tent sites with awesome views! A "hidden gem" that Islanders love!

  • Strathcona Provincial Park (Between Courtenay and Campbell River) Head to Buttle Lake Campground in this park. A gorgeous lake with 85 nice treed sites. Just make sure you've got all your supplies, as there aren't any stores/facilities close by. More of a wilderness campsite and a great place for fishing and boating!

    One More Recommendation...

If you don't mind making a short hop off Vancouver Island (by ferry service), then there's a BC provincial campground that we also highly recommend.

  • Tribune Bay Provincial Park is located on Hornby Island, and is known as "Canada's Hawaii." This is a gorgeous spot that you'll fall in love with. The white sand beaches and bathtub-warm water makes it feel tropical. A fun and friendly Island to explore too, with an eclectic mixture of people, arts and crafts.

"Sounds Great! But how do I get to Hornby Island?"

HOW TO GET TO HORNBY ISLAND

Getting to Hornby Island from Vancouver Island is actually easy. First, you'll have to catch a ferry to Denman Island (10 minute crossing). Then you'll catch one more ferry to Hornby Island (another 10 minute crossing). This trip is worth it - believe us!

Here are the ferry schedules you'll need:

The first ferry you'll need to catch: Vancouver Island to Denman Island .

The last ferry you'll need (for your final destination): Denman Island to Hornby Island .

We know you'll love Vancouver Island BC camping in our awesome provincial parks! Have a great camping season!
