Adventure Summer Camps - Paddle, Climb and Explore the Island!

Searching for some good adventure summer camps for the kids? We think you'll love Vancouver Island summer camps - there's plenty to offer outdoors here on the Island!

We've done our research (with kids!) to find the best adventure camps for all ages (awesome stuff even for teens).

Been thinking about a family adventure? Join one of the Island's fantastic summer family adventure camps offered! It's a great way to get to know the Island and discover nature up close.

Give The Kids An "Island in the Pacific" Adventure!

What is summer like on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada? Sun, sand, surf, wildlife, mountains and more. We're definitely a summer family vacation destination.

Adventure summer camps on Vancouver Island offers an immense variety of outdoor activities. Paddle a river. Go rock climbing. Explore ancient caves. Go wilderness hiking and camping. We've got the great outdoors for kids and their families!

One of the best outdoor adventure summer camps on the Island is Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre . The Lodge is a pretty unique place. It's a wilderness retreat, tucked well into the center of Vancouver Island, on the shores of Upper Campbell Lake and surrounded by mountains.

Here there are a ton of great, challenging and diverse outdoor camp adventures (summer and winter) for kids, teens, families (parents who want to stay with their kids), and even active grandparents and their grandchildren.

Strathcona Park Lodge lies 200 miles north of Victoria and 25 miles west of the nearest town, Campbell River. If you're driving, head out with a full tank of gas - there's nothing along the way.

Our Picks For Best Adventure Summer Camps on
Vancouver Island

We've "zeroed in" on the ones that offer some of the best programs and activities.

Here are the summer camps that top our list...

  • Horne Lake Adventure Camps - Located about a 1 hour drive northwest of Nanaimo, this one offers family, kids and teen summer camp adventures. Rock climbing, cave exploring and wilderness survival... just some of what's offered here at this popular lake area. A good camp that works for all ages. We like the Family Adventure Camping program - introduces your kids to the wilds of camping. Click Here for their website to get more information.

  • Wyld Expeditions - For a more rugged outdoor experience, here's one of the best camps to join. From rock climbing to challenge courses to whitewater kayaking, this group offers excellent wilderness adventure summer camps. Any of the camps offered here are superb, but we'd say Wyld Expeditions is best suited for teens to older teens.

Wyld Expeditions operates their camps in one of the Island's most spectacular (and we say most rugged) parks - Strathcona Provincial Park. A great outdoors area with tons to do. Book well ahead as they fill up. Click Here for their website to get more information.

  • Island Escapades - Here's another one we'd recommend. Take a very short (15 min.) ferry ride from Sidney to Salt Spring Island for your kids to join an excellent(and busy!) summer program. Geared for kids 8-18, this camp's got a multitude of programs: mountain climbing, surfing, kayaking and more. Click Here for their website for more information.

  • Eagle Arts Academy - Located at Shawnigan Lake (about 40 minutes north of Victoria), this is a co-ed camp that focuses on the arts (dance, drama, music, etc) and has excellent programs fitted for kids 5-17. Long term camp stays, as well as shorter program day camps are available. BONUS: They also offer transportation from Victoria and Nanaimo. Check out Their Website Here for more details.
